Learning Gemstone Setting

At the Mengeš Jewelry Academy, we place particular emphasis on gemstone setting, as high-quality execution is one of the most demanding and important aspects of the jewelry-making profession.

We teach a variety of setting techniques, from basic to more advanced, including pavé, side-by-side, fish tail, bezel, flush or gypsy setting, as well as other techniques that we gradually build upon according to each individual’s knowledge and progress.

Learning takes place primarily through practical work, as precision, a feel for the material, and the proper use of tools can only be mastered through extensive practice under a microscope.

Our workshop is professionally equipped for gemstone setting. We use the GRS pneumatic engraving and setting system, as well as high-quality stereo microscopes, including the ZEISS Stemi 508 and Leica Ivesta 3, which enable extremely precise work even with very small stones.

The goal of the training is not merely to learn individual techniques, but to develop the precision, tool control, and understanding of proper gemstone setting required for professional work in jewelry making.

In the video below, you can see part of the practical training and the setting work being carried out under a microscope.
